Rapid population aging across APEC economies is placing increasing pressure on health systems and driving demand for rehabilitation to help older people maintain functional ability, social participants, and quality of life. There is an urgent need for innovative rehabilitation technologies and service delivery models that expand access to affordable, high-quality care and strengthen the capacity of health systems to respond to aging populations. In support of the APEC Healthy Aging Action Plan (2026-2030) and its priority of strengthening rehabilitation within aging-responsive health systems, the APEC Workshop on Advancing Healthy Aging through Innovative Rehabilitation is proposed as a half-day event on 31 October 2026 in Beijing, China. The event will bring together policymakers, experts, and representatives from government, academia, and industry to exchange experiences, share good practices, and explore innovative approaches to rehabilitation for older people. Through expert presentations and interactive discussions, participants will examine enabling policies, emerging technologies, and approaches to integrating rehabilitation into primary, community-based, and long-term care from an interdisplinary perspective. The workshop aims to identify practical recommendations, strengthen cross-sectoral collaboration, and support knowledge sharing, contributing to more accessible rehabilitation services that promote healthy aging for APEC regions.
