Despite ongoing efforts to strengthen STEM talent development across APEC, progress is constrained by the lack of comprehensive, comparable, and disaggregated STEM talent data. Differences in definitions and indicators make it difficult for economies to benchmark progress, identify skills gaps, and develop evidence-based workforce policies, particularly as AI rapidly reshapes STEM workforce demands. To address these challenges, the APEC STEM Symposium 2026 will be held in November 2026 in the Republic of Korea as a half-day hybrid event under the theme "The Power of Data". The symposium will bring together approximately 40 policymakers, statistical agencies, researchers, and STEM experts to share best practices on STEM talent data production, comparability, and utilization. By strengthening regional policy dialogue and knowledge sharing, the project will enhance economies' capacity to develop evidence-based STEM talent policies and foster stronger regional cooperation for a more resilient and future-ready STEM workforce.
