Amid the new wave of technological revolution and industrial transformation, Customs authorities worldwide face both unprecedented challenges and transformative opportunities. This project seizes the moment by harnessing cutting-edge technology and innovation to accelerate Customs modernization, facilitate cross-border trade, and tackle global challenges through the development of Smart Customs in the APEC region.

By gathering exemplary Smart Customs case studies and conducting a comprehensive survey. The survey results will be updated to the Smart Customs Best Practices Case Repository. The project directly supports APEC’s trade-facilitation and digital-innovation agenda under the Putrajaya Vision 2040, with a focus on promoting coordinated, pragmatic cooperation in Customs procedures among APEC economies. A dedicated workshop will be held during SOM 3 / SCCP 2 in 2026, bringing together Customs officials and technical experts from across the region to share insights, exchange best practices, and forge collective solutions.
