Whole genome sequencing (WGS) is a laboratory technology that reads the complete DNA “fingerprint” of bacteria and other microbes, allowing scientists to precisely identify and compare strains that cause foodborne illness. For APEC economies, using WGS means faster outbreak detection, fewer unnecessary product recalls, safer food supplies, and more resilient cross-border trade as contamination sources are identified quickly and accurately. This project will build on WGS awareness raising (begun under a previous self-funded project) by producing accessible, replicable online training materials, that can later be supplemented with more advanced, hands-on training.
