Digital twins can improve safety, reduce costs, and optimize production. ISO/IEC 30173 defines a digital twin as a digital representation of a target entity with data connections that enable convergence between the physical and digital states. As the APEC region continues to rapidly develop its digital economy, standards must guide the design, development, and deployment of emerging digital technologies in an open and transparent manner to reduce barriers to trade. This project will build on past emerging technology and digitalization efforts to introduce the topic of digital twins and related standards through a survey and information brief. The project will examine where APEC economies are in their understanding of digital twins and provide a foundation of information on digital twin technology, its benefits to manufacturing, and the necessary standards for implementation which can help drive trade and economic growth.
