Project Summary
This project aims to strengthen biosecurity in the Asia-Pacific by bolstering the capacity of regulators in developing APEC economies to manage biosecurity risk and by harmonising approaches to risk management. This will be achieved by facilitating the attendance of officials from APEC developing economies at the 2026 Quarantine Regulators Meeting (QRM) and International Cargo Cooperative Biosecurity Arrangement (ICCBA) Steering Committee and technical meetings which will be hosted by the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. The QRM is the world’s only forum for discussing and developing practical solutions to biosecurity risk challenges. Australia looks to continue and consolidate the success of previous APEC self-funded post-pandemic QRMs as the number of participating agencies increases each year. Developing APEC economies constitute a core bloc of long-standing QRM participants and ICCBA members and their contributions to QRM 2026 will be vital.
