Amid ongoing digital transformation and AI advancements, global customs face both opportunities and challenges. AI can revolutionize customs governance by enhancing efficiency, reducing costs, and strengthening security. Aligned with APEC Putrajaya Vision 2040 for a dynamic, resilient, and inclusive economy, this project will study AI-driven modern customs practices across APEC economies. By collecting cases of current AI application in Customs operations, conducting a comprehensive survey on AI adoption, analyzing challenges, and providing practical recommendations. This project aims to leverage AI for trade facilitation, security, and operational efficiency, supporting APEC supply chain connectivity goals. A hybrid workshop will be held during SOM1/SCCP1 2026, inviting APEC customs officials and researchers to share insights.
