Project Summary

*
In today’s increasingly interconnected global economy, data standards play a pivotal role in building efficient and resilient supply chains by enabling seamless data exchange among the stakeholders. Adopting a globally consistent and shared framework of data standards, based on international standards wherever possible, significantly reduces business costs, improves traceability and enhances visibility.

This project seeks to enhance understanding of how data standards, combined with modern technology, can add value to supply chains, through a workshop to be held in the margins of 2026 SOM1 in China. Specifically, the workshop will explore how data standards can help streamline trade process, support trade compliance, facilitate trade finance, and enable greater participation of MSMEs in supply chains, especially if they are based on international standards and adopted globally. It will also examine the latest trends, benefits, challenges, potential risks and policy considerations related to data standards adoption in a consistent way globally.
By encouraging knowledge exchange and policy deliberation, the project will provide APEC policymakers with practical insights into identifying and promoting data standards that are global. This can advance supply chain connectivity and promote sustainable economic growth in the APEC Region.
