Outputs
1) Workshop (Hybrid)
Hybrid format justification and structure: The workshop will be a full-day event, with the hybrid component focused on the morning sessions to accommodate participants from both Latin American and Asian economies. The morning sessions will consist of a keynote presentation and a Q&A session, ensuring that the most critical and informative parts of the workshop are accessible to all participants, regardless of their location.
This format ensures inclusivity while minimizing screen fatigue for virtual attendees.
The afternoon will transition to an in-person format, featuring panel discussions and interactive breakout sessions. This structure allows for deeper exploration of workshop themes and fosters dynamic collaboration among in-person attendees.
Pre-Event Assessment: A pre-event assessment will be conducted to evaluate participants' capacity and knowledge prior to the workshop. This assessment will also allow participants to suggest specific topics for discussion, ensuring that the workshop addresses their needs effectively. Duration: The workshop will be conducted over two full days (6-7 hours per day), packed with panels, case studies, and connection sessions .
Location: The event is planned as a hybrid workshop, allowing for both in- person participation and virtual attendance to accommodate a broader audience and enhance accessibility. In-person event will be in in Korea.
Expected Scope: The workshop will cover themes related to the use of AI and big data in environmental monitoring, focusing on applications in the industrial, agricultural, and fisheries sectors. It will include expert panels on technology integration, case studies from successful implementations, and practical exercises. The final session on the last day will involve participants discussing recommendations and wrapping up key discussions.
Stakeholder Engagement: The workshop will engage policymakers, technology experts, and practitioners in the field of environmental monitoring, with an emphasis on including voices from developing APEC economies.
Participants: The workshop targets approximately 30 participants, including government officials, environmental experts, and department heads with decision-making capabilities in their respective fields.
Speakers and Panelists: The workshop will feature 12 leading experts and innovators from APEC economies who specialize in digital technologies, environmental policy, and sector-specific applications.
Brief Agenda:
Day 1: Integration of AI and Big Data in Environmental Monitoring The workshop begins with a keynote address on AI and big data
applications in environmental monitoring, followed by a panel on real-time analytics in industries.
Day 2: Applications in Agriculture and Fisheries
Day two focuses on sustainable practices in agriculture and successful fisheries monitoring with big data. Participants engage in a workshop on data-driven decision-making and close the day with a session summarizing key insights and recommendations.
Proposed structure fot both days:

Scale:
-Distribution: The report will be distributed digitally to all APEC economies, available for download on the APEC website, and disseminated through relevant APEC forums and working groups. The Report will be an APEC publication.
-Length: Approximately 12 pages of substantive content, excluding appendices and references.
Outcomes
1) The workshop will raise awareness among participants about the latest advancements in AI and big data technologies applicable to environmental monitoring. By showcasing real-world examples and discussing current technology trends, the workshop aims to enhance participants' understanding of how these tools can be deployed in their respective sectors. This increased awareness is expected to stimulate interest and encourage further exploration and adoption of these technologies at a basic level in their home economies.
2) A primary outcome will be the establishment of initial contacts and relationships among participants from various APEC economies. This networking will provide a foundation for future collaboration and communication. By facilitating these connections, the workshop aims to create an informal network where participants can share insights, seek advice, and explore potential partnerships in a less formal, yet constructive, setting.
