Project Summary

*

University admission, including college entrance examination, is the most crucial part of education systems in APEC member economies. The university admission schemes essentially steer school education reform as a key driving force of examination-oriented education or quality-oriented learning. On the other hand, the university admission is onramp for student mobility across the region. Also the universities in APEC members increasingly look to admission schemes of other economies when they recruit international students and develop related policies. In particular, since the outbreak of COVID-19, many prospective international students have been unable to go to universities for their studies and have instead got enrolled in joint education programmes. Under such circumstances, how to update admission arrangements has become an unprecedented challenge. Nonetheless, the specific practices of university admission vary from economy to economy and there is a lack of sharing information on university admission and systemic analysis of university admission in the APEC region.

The project aims at informing transition from examination-oriented education to competency-oriented education through collecting, analyzing and sharing the processes, policies and strategies of university admission across the region, which hopefully will also facilitate student mobility through developing mutual understanding of university admission systems among APEC members.

The research will be conducted by case studies, questionnaire and interview of selected university in member economies. The results of data collection and analysis will be presented in the final project report. A webinar will finally be held to share the findings and conclusions as well as typical university admission processes, policies and strategies.
